Yrjö Kukkapuro, Triennale Chair

Modeo Oy Stand: B4

Yrjö Kukkapuro designed Triennale chair for The Milan Triennial of 1960. The chair was named after the international event where it was also awarded. Now, after 62 years the chair is being manufactured. The basic elements of Yrjö Kukkapuro’s design can be seen in the chair: light and minimalistic metal frame, wooden seat components and loose seat cushions.

Due to the increase of the average height of people during the past decades the backrest of the chair has been heightened a bit. Otherwise the original design remains unedited. Even the foldable metal frame is part of the original Triennale. The wide wooden armrests are practical and give the chair a showy look. Manufacturing of the chair adheres to the principles of sustainability.

Materials used in the chair are steel and oak. The wooden parts that are painted black are massive wood. The foam pillows are upholstered with Elmo Neocoast leather. Elmo leather is tanned in Sweden with so called “Clean water tanning” technique. The leather material is also traceable straight to a farm.

In the near future the Triennale product series will be complemented by fabric upholstered chairs as well as a version that is suitable for outdoor use.
