Design Helsinki will showcase the best in contemporary Scandinavian design. Launching in Finland, the Nordic’s hidden gem, the festival will highlight the profound influence that Scandinavian design and its commitment to sustainability has on the Architecture and Design industry.

This is your Fringe information pack for Design Helsinki 2022: a quick-reference document to help you get the most out of your involvement in the festival. You’ll find an overview of this year’s event, an outline of how we work to support and promote you, those all important deadlines and how you can submit your fringe application.


Festival structure

Design Helsinki is made up of four main streams of activity, which can help to define the visitor experience.

Fringe / Food & Drink

Working in conjunction with some of Helsinki's best food and beverage vendors, visitors will benefit from a variety of discounts and deals. Design Helsinki will select 25 local creative practices and 25 Food & Drink partners to take part in the festival.


Integral to the festival are the local design showrooms who will partner with Design Helsinki to present a stimulating programme of topic-led events including talks, workshops and product launches.


A curated international pavilion situated in the heart of Helsinki will showcase the best in Nordic, Scandinavian and international contemporary design brands.


A number of thought-provoking and immersive installations will be situated across the festival trail and will double as wayfinding beacons to encourage visitor movement across Helsinki.


Application process

As part of the Fringe programme at Design Helsinki, a selection of local practices and businesses throw open their doors to the festival’s visitors and host workshops, displays, talks, installations and industry parties.

Please note if you are selected to be a Fringe Partner, a participation fee of €500 is required. This covers promotion of the event online and via social media, as well as marketing materials at the show. Fringe partners are limited to 25 businesses and are offered on a first come first serve basis (subject to event/location approval).

The selected 25 participants will be located within the parameters of the Design Helsinki map. Anything outside of this area will not be selected for inclusion.

On-site materials
You’ll receive a Design Helsinki branded flag to place outside your venue for the two days to let visitors know you are taking part in the festival.
